So, I've been putting off the blog post for at least 4 days now and I know that if I don't get it done, I'll forget all the lovely details soon. Not that it wasn't a very memorable trip, it was, but you know how memories lapse and all...
May 19, 2010 ::: Wednesday
Ok, so our plane left at 1:50pm; everything went off without a hitch, minus that part about spending too long eating in the airport and nearly missing our plane. How close were we to missing it, you ask? Not that close probably, but it felt like it.
When we left PDX it was pouring down rain and we were soooo pleased to step off the plane to nearly 100 degree weather. I thought surely my husband would die in the heat (he wilts easily), but it was a nice dry heat which is quite the opposite from the humid hell of a Portland summer.
Dinner was at the Blue Coyote in downtown Palm Springs - coconut shrimp for me, fish tacos for Chris.
Super yummy.
After a short walk we headed back to the Inn and if we weren't already head over heels in love with the place, the candles around the pool, soft music and beautiful views surely melted our hearts.
Day one was a success. Safe travels, beautiful scenery, time with the love of my life. *Sigh*May 20, 2010 ::: Thursday
Chris and I made a pact to get up at a reasonable hour each day so we could make the most out of our trip. So, around 9am I pitter-pattered out to the office to find fresh french press coffee, warm french pastries and strawberries with creme fraiche. Heaven, just heaven.
The whole purpose of this trip, besides celebrating our two year anniversary, which, if I were a betting girl, I would've bet against us, was mainly to relax. So, come day two, that is exactly what we did.
But then we got hungry! So we hopped in our trusty rental (Hyundai Accent = slightly faster than a horse/buggy combo) and headed down to the "main drag" which is Palm Canyon Drive. At first glance I was slightly alarmed when we drove by a restaurant that was on fire and nobody was doing anything! I'm talking, smoke billowing out of the roof. On second glance and with a little help from my super smart husband, I realized it wasn't smoke after all. Rather, it was a fine mist coming out of the misters and nearly every restaurant had them. I can't tell you how nice it was to sit outside in the heat and have a light mist going all around us. We ate at Peabody's, a small cafe that made up in atmosphere what it lacked in food quality.
After a nappy nap, we headed down to the Thursday Night Palm Springs Street Fair, petted some horses, and played our favorite game in the whole world: Name That Breed. See, over the years, I've become quite the little dog breed expert and so when Chris and I are out and about, we see who can name the breeds we see correctly and fastest. Good times, always.
May 21, 2010 ::: Friday
The day started with fresh fruit by the pool, followed by laying by the pool, a nap and then Chris and I went to a meeting in the evening. After we went out to dinner at the cutest little Italian restaurant, we really wanted to go dancing, so we found a 40 and older club which ended up being the best time ever. We cut a rug and showed the older generation that just because we are still under 40 doesn't mean we can't two step with the best of 'em.
Couple trip highlights I forgot to mention:
- Toby: This is the dog that belongs to the owner of the Inn. Once I gave him his first cookie, he was all mine for the rest of the trip. It made me miss Macy terribly, but it was nice to have some canine love around.
- Hummingbirds: there seemed to be a lot of hummingbirds around anyway, but the best thing ever was this little nest below that happens to have two itty bitty baby hummingbirds in it who are just about ready to get kicked out of the nest. I watched them everyday and they got bigger with each passing day. I don't know if you can tell by looking at the pictures, but it's the best shot I could get.
May 22, 2010 ::: Saturday
This was our final day and we definitely made the most of it. I had a lavender relaxation massage at a local spa around noon, which was wonderful (thank you, Chris!) and we spent the afternoon at the Knott's Berry Farm Soak City Water Park. Truth be told, we could've skipped the water park and been perfectly fine with more money in our pocket, but it was good to see what it was all about. Lots of noise, kids, etc. Probably not doing that again...
We went to the best dinner in the whole world that night. Many people we know recommended Spencer's Restaurant. It is next to the legendary Palm Springs Tennis Club and not only is the food totally divine, the portions are unbelievably large. I had shrimp and lobster ravioli, Chris had filet mignon and lobster. We shared the best carrot cake ever. It was the best finale to a wonderful vacation and a true celebration. Loved. Every. Minute.
