1. The September Issue: I've been waiting some time to see this and finally remembered while at Blockbuster to pick it up. This is a documentary about Anna Wintour, the woman who pretty much dictates all thing fashion. It is rumored that Devil Wears Prada was based on this woman, primarily because the book was written by a former assistant to Ms. Wintour. Yes, there are similarities, quite a few of them, but Anna is nowhere near as bad as Meridith. Actually, I don't even think it's possible to be that horrible in real life. Trailer below:
2. Whitney Houston: I was holding a grudge for a little bit, but after watching the Oprah interview with her, I am all better. I heard from her what I was hoping to hear, which is that she has made the necessary changes to her life and relied on God to do so. She mentions near the end of part II that she prayed that God would give her strength for just one day to enable her to leave her husband who was emotionally abusive. Sometimes I get frustrated because people often consider emotional abuse to be less harmful that physical abuse and I feel quite the opposite. Scars heal, bruises go away; the effects of emotional abuse can take one of the biggest songstresses from diva to dirt in a matter of years. I'm glad she left; he never deserved her anyway. If you have time, do watch the video. Otherwise just know that our girl is making a comeback.
I can't post the video, but both parts of the interview are here and here.

3. Truffle Salt: Or any flavored salt for that matter. I found this cute little online store (Beyond the Shaker) that sells oodles and oodles of creative flavor infused salts. I have used these sprinkled on raw chicken prior to grilling, the other, and my most favorite, is to sprinkle a flavored salt on a stick of unsalted butter and serve with warm bread with a meal. This site offers sample sized so, you can try before you make the real investment. Truffle is my preferred flavor, but I'm willing to bet they're all pretty fantastic.

4. The Marriage Ref: This show is dynamite. The whole idea is fabulous and the guest panel provides a hilarious dynamic of comedy. It's on NBC, Thursday nights (you'll have to check for the exact time). Below is my favorite episode so far and Sarah Silverman makes some wonderful points about just how often women equate gifts with love and what nonsense it really is.
5. Dr. Laura Schlessinger: If you're like most of the women my age, you aren't a huge fan of Dr. Laura, but guess what? I don't care. She's fabulous! She is assertive in what she believes and what she believes is moral, ethical, respectful and powerful. This book changed my entire perspective on marriage and my role as a wife. No, I didn't end up barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, but what I did end up with was a new found respect for the institution of marriage and for my husband as a man, provider, friend and human being.

I have more to post, but it's been one of those days. The eyelids are drooping and if I don't go to bed, I'll probably fall asleep on my keyboard.
Cheers to a great week!
Love, Lisa
